Whether it is an argument, a boy, a failed test, or a serious loss, moving on with your life is an important and essential
part of growing up, because it continues throughout life.
Three easy steps:
Assess
Accept
Analyze
Assess: It can be overwhelming to become disappointed in an area of life. The first thing you need to
do is assess the damage. What has really happened? What was lost--in detail? Define the problem as best
as possible, even if you have to talk aloud to explain it to yourself.
Accept: Once you know what hurts,
accept that it will eventually not hurt. It is normal to want to hold onto the pain as if it is unique and never-ending,
but the reality is that we all know things do (and always) get better. Take a deep breath and let yourself be okay with
the fact that you can't go back and fix what has happened. You can only move forward.
Acknowledge:
Be aware of progress. Be aware of help. The first thing most of us do when we do not want to move on from a problem
is insist we are alone. No one knows how we feel. Wrong! The first thing to do is acknowledge the good things
still in your life and the possible lessons learned from your difficult experience.
In a nutshell, you can recover
from anything if you learn to experience the process of moving on. No one expects everything to work perfectly in life.
You have to be willing to say to yourself:
"What just happened here?"
"I just need to be patient
while this passes."
"Thankfully, I have other blessings right now."
