Follow Your Dream
By Michele Brannon Hamilton
Do you have a secret
dream? Do you dream of being a singer, a writer or a movie star? You have your head in the clouds and you're destined
for greatness. Common sense tells you to put your dream aside but your heart tells you to go for it. Maybe the answer lies
somewhere in between.
- Be realistic without giving up your dream. Take acting, singing or sports lessons.
See where it goes from there. Try out for teams and theatre parts in your area. You never know how far you can go until you
try. Start small and see if you have the dedication and the talent to fulfill your dream.
- Have a backup plan. Even
movie stars go to college. Acting and singing are roller coaster careers. Singers who make it to the top of charts don't
always stay there. You need a backup plan to help you when the going gets tough.
- Plan an alternate career in your
field. Get a degree in Arts or Music. Become a drama, music or athletic teacher. The possibilities are endless.
- Make
it happen. You can't expect success to come looking for you. You have to go get it. People who believe in themselves attract
the attention of others. If you don't believe in yourself, no one else will either. Believe in yourself and you will shine.
- Be
passionate about life. Live, love and learn with your soul. Then put your love of life into your career. Share your talents
and enjoy what you do. Then be patient and watch your dream grow into a career.
It's okay to dream.
Believe in yourself and it just might come true. Not everyone will get to the big screen or be a star athlete but that doesn't
mean the dream has to stop there. As I write these words, I'm living a dream. I'm becoming the writer I always wanted
to be. I may not be a top novelist but I'm doing a job I love and I started right where you are - with a dream.
Dreams do come true and you only have one life so go for it!
