Being a Friend
This morning, I woke up with the memory of an old friend from college.  He is a lovely person, but at the time when our friendship was at its peak, I probably did not appreciate him the way that I do now.  We were always only friends, by the way.  However, I knew how he felt about me - he loved me.  In fact, I am sometimes taken aback about my lack of gratitude at the time.  How amazing it is to be loved by someone, even if you only wish them to be a friend!

As an adult, I began to smile in hindsight.  I'd think of the little ways in which he coddled me as a "friend," and how he seemed to dote over my every wish.  He was just a friend, but through his love for me, he was quite the best friend.

I am now married and so is he.  Our lives have moved on and our friendship still lives.  The years in which he found my ungrateful spirit attractive dwindled into the years when he would find his true soulmate, and so did I.  However, a thought comes to mind.

Do we acknowledge and appreciate those who love us WHEN it matters?
