Are you the type of gal who loves Spell Check?  When you get a poor grade anyway, do you blame Microsoft?  The first step to owning your own work is to proofread the “old way.”  Automatic computer programs are designed to help you find mistakes not catch all of them. 

Safe Proofreading Tips: 

• Write outlines to organize your paper. 
• Write a rough draft to get all of your thoughts out. 
• Read through your rough draft and correct sentence by sentence—slowly.
• Use Spell Check for a quick glance to see if there are any major errors. 
• Print out your work. 
• Proofread with a pen ink different than the printer ink. 
• Replace repeated words with a thesaurus and dictionary. 
• Buy a grammar reference book at a bookstore. 
• Have a trusted friend or adult read your work before submission.
